Climate Champions is a new Future Neighbourhoods 2030 initiative, led by the Volunteer Centre Kensington & Chelsea in the north of the borough as part of the Community Champions programme. It’s about local people coming together to care for their neighbourhood and take action on the issues that affect them every day.
Our Climate Champions are residents and volunteers who want to make their area a better place to live — greener streets, cleaner air, healthier communities, and neighbourhoods that are better able to cope with the changing climate. Working side by side, they run practical, community-led projects on topics including:
- climate emergency preparedness
- biodiversity
- food growing
- reuse and repair
- walking and cycling
The Climate Champions will also have free training and guest lecture opportunities. Some secured training opportunities include:
Climate Action Training delivered by Groundwork London, and Climate Fresk training delivered by a local facilitator Gabor Sarlos.
Climate change isn’t something abstract — it’s already part of our daily lives. Summers are getting hotter and drier, winters are warmer and wetter, and homes and shared spaces are more at risk of flooding, as we saw in July 2021. As people who live, work, and spend time in North Kensington, we notice these changes first-hand. By sharing knowledge, building confidence, and strengthening relationships between neighbours, we can support each other and build communities that are more resilient, connected, and proud of where they live.
