Local Refugee Week Event: Stories of Strength and Solidarity

Join us at “Community as a Superpower: Stories of Strength and Solidarity”, an inspiring local event exploring how communities can be powerful forces for welcome, resilience, and change.

Taking place on Saturday 21 June at Kensington Central Library, this event marks Refugee Week 2025, and invites us to come together in recognition of the courage, challenges, and resilience of those who seek safety – and to reflect on the transformative power of human connection in the face of displacement.

This special one-hour event will feature a panel discussion with three outstanding speakers working at the intersection of human rights, journalism, and grassroots activism:

  • Joel Mordi: Nigerian LGBTQI+ and refugee rights activist, founder of Mordi Ibe Foundation, and recipient of the prestigious Diana Legacy Award
  • Kaamil Ahmed: Guardian journalist and author of I Feel No Peace, documenting the plight of the Rohingya people
  • Reginald Oko-Flex Inya: Director of Operations at Unique Support Hub, a UK-Ireland-based NGO offering practical advocacy and support to asylum seekers

Each speaker brings unique insight into the realities of forced migration – from the systemic barriers faced by marginalised groups to the everyday efforts that build solidarity and belonging.

Alongside the panel, a powerful photo exhibition by Kaamil Ahmed will be on display, offering a window into the lives of Myanmar’s Rohingya minority in exile.

Whether you’re new to these conversations or deeply engaged in community action, we welcome you to join us in listening, learning, and connecting beyond labels.
