We love celebrating the incredible contributions of our volunteers, and today, we’re shining a light on Kai Lok, a dedicated and compassionate volunteer whose journey with us has been nothing short of inspiring.
A Commitment to Helping Others
Kai Lok joined our Wellbeing Programme in August 2024, setting a goal from the very start: to create his own Litter Picking Volunteering Group. Fast forward to this year, and that dream has become a reality! Partnering with Lancaster West Estate, Kai Lok has launched his own initiative, demonstrating his deep commitment to making his local environment cleaner and safer for everyone.
When asked about his motivation, Kai Lok simply said,
I want to do something that makes a difference, something that is helpful.
His dedication to action speaks louder than words, and his passion for community improvement is truly inspiring.

More Than Just Volunteering
Kai Lok’s impact goes far beyond his litter-picking efforts. Over the past year, he has taken on four different volunteer placements, attended events and trips, and even improved our online presence by updating our Google Maps image and business details. Thanks to his initiative, our charity logo and location are now accurately displayed—no more confusing images of a flyover!
Beyond his volunteering, Kai Lok brings warmth and generosity into the office. He delights his colleagues by sharing Chinese New Year sweets and even took the time to translate the sweets that Liz brought back from China! His thoughtfulness extends into everyday life—he used to carry six 500ml bottles of water with him daily, just in case someone around him needed a drink. After some gentle advice about the weight of the bottles, he adjusted his habit, but the sentiment behind it speaks volumes about his caring nature.

Finding Strength Through Giving Back
Volunteering has also played a crucial role in helping Kai Lok navigate a personal traumatic experience. He shared that having a meaningful and productive focus has provided him with a positive way to process his emotions and continue moving forward.
Reflecting on one of his volunteering experiences, Kai Lok said:
While it might have been tiring, there was something rewarding about putting in the physical labour. The act of something as simple as cleaning up the fallen leaves and discarded litter outside the Canalside Centre made a noticeable difference. It made the environment safer for the children going in and just more pleasant to look at in general. It was a nice feeling to actually do something about an issue and see the change.
A True Inspiration
Kai Lok’s journey is a testament to the power of volunteering—not only in benefiting the community but also in providing a sense of purpose and resilience. He brings a fantastic energy to everything he does, and we’re so grateful to have him as part of the VCKC family.
Kai Lok, you’re amazing! Keep making a difference, one step at a time.
