As a Volunteer Centre, much of our work centres on the wellbeing of our community—helping people unleash their full potential and spreading social good.
Mental health is a key part of overall wellbeing, and this World Mental Health Day (10th October), we want to shine a light on the support available, because no one should suffer in silence. Our Wellbeing Volunteer, Stan, beautifully wrote:
“As humans, we are born with a need for connection and community, for care and consideration. However, as we all know, these basic needs can sometimes go unmet at various points in our lives. This can lead to feelings of shame and the belief that loneliness is our fault. But nobody should feel this way. Connection is a fundamental human need, and it is something we often see lacking in our community.”
From early on, we realised that to unlock the full potential of volunteering, we needed to meet people where they are in life. This belief led to the creation of many of our programmes. Our Specialist Services support people living with disabilities and/or mental health challenges in Kensington and Chelsea, helping them achieve better health and wellbeing. Our Notting Dale Community Champions bring together volunteers and residents in the Notting Dale Ward to raise awareness of health and wellbeing needs, fostering a sense of connection.
These programmes, alongside others, work to address mental health issues and combat isolation in our community. But we can’t do it alone. This World Mental Health Day, we encourage everyone to reflect on the importance of mental wellbeing and to reach out if they need support.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, or if you are passionate about helping others, we invite you to get in touch. Whether it’s seeking support or volunteering, we are here to help you find the right path forward.
