Dancing in the Rain: Community, Wellbeing & Volunteering at Fiery Community Fest

On Sunday 14th September, Fiery Hearts CIC hosted Fiery Community Fest as part of the Mayor’s Community Weekend – a free wellbeing celebration filled with movement, mindfulness and meaningful connection. VCKC was proud to support the event by recruiting, coordinating and managing a brilliant team of volunteers (led by our Volunteer Coordinator, Moska Saidy), who helped make the day run smoothly with warmth and enthusiasm.

The festival offered a full day of family-friendly activities, from gentle yoga and pilates in the morning sunshine to guided breathing sessions, a tranquil sound bath, and – to end the day – everyone dancing joyfully in the rain. It was a powerful reminder that wellbeing doesn’t always come from quiet spaces alone, but also from shared laughter, movement, and simply showing up for one another.

As one of our volunteers shared:

I loved volunteering at the Fiery Community Fest. It was incredible to see the whole community come out and support this wellbeing initiative. I also got to learn about the cool health initiatives run locally, which I look forward to attending.

For many, the day was not just an event, but an antidote to isolation. As we know well, acts of volunteering can significantly reduce loneliness and build stronger social bonds – something vividly seen at Fiery Fest, where strangers became neighbours, and neighbours became friends.

Moska adds:

What stood out most, was watching people who had never met before sit together after a session, sharing stories with big smiles. That’s the quiet power of volunteering – creating moments of connection that last longer than the event itself.

As we reflect on the importance of mental wellbeing, Fiery Community Fest was a beautiful example of what happens when communities come together – to breathe, move, give time, and remind each other that none of us have to do life alone.
