On 7th and 8th June, the streets of South Kensington were once again filled with creativity, community, and conversation as the Great Exhibition Road Festival returned for another year. Across two days, visitors of all ages came together to explore science, arts, and culture through interactive stalls, performances, and pop-up experiences from some of the UK’s leading institutions.
At the heart of this vibrant weekend were nearly 40 of our incredible volunteers – many returning to support the festival, and others joining us for the first time. Their energy, warmth, and dedication helped bring the festival to life, offering visitors everything from directions and information to friendly chats and helping hands. With unwavering enthusiasm, smiles, and maps, our volunteers made sure everyone felt welcomed and supported.
We believe that volunteering at community events like this is about creating a shared experience. It’s about moments where a lost family finds their way thanks to a volunteer, or when someone discovers something wonderfully unexpected because they stopped to ask a question and were met with genuine interest and encouragement. Because volunteers have the ability to turn a busy festival into a community space – where people can learn, laugh, and connect with one another.
It’s somehow easy to forget how much care goes into making an event like this feel effortless. That’s why we are grateful for our volunteers who offered their time, attention, and presence to support not just the event, but the whole community and the people attending it. In London, a city that often can feel fast-paced and isolating, these gestures remind us how vital human connection is – and how much stronger we are when we support one another.
Behind every public event, charity initiative, or community project, there are people quietly giving their time to make things better for others.
