A New Year of Connection, Impact, and Possibility

As we step into a new year, it’s a natural moment to pause and reflect on what’s been achieved and what still feels possible. Over the past year, our work at VCKC has continued to centre around one simple but powerful idea: that volunteering strengthens communities and helps people feel less alone in the city they live in.

Our newly published 2024–25 Annual Report captures the impact of that work. Over the year:

  • We supported 1,217 people, of whom 533 were residents of Kensington & Chelsea
  • Our Core Team supported 88 organisations to offer 148 inclusive, accessible, and safe volunteering roles
  • We placed 438 people into rewarding volunteering roles; helping themselves and helping others
  • 122 people who were lonely, isolated, or concerned about their mental health got the support they needed

Behind every statistic is a person, a story, and a moment of connection.

We were recently reminded of this when we caught up with George, who took part in our Market Ambassadors programme, which is currently on pause, while studying at King’s College London. George originally started volunteering to gain experience, but quickly found something more meaningful.

He shared that what mattered most was feeling part of a community in a city where it’s easy to feel anonymous.

“You sometimes can feel quite small, especially somewhere like London… like you haven’t really got the chance to be part of anything bigger. But volunteering is a fantastic opportunity to be part of something more than just what you’re getting on with yourself.”

Through the programme, George built confidence, connected with the local community at Portobello Market, and went on to volunteer at events like the Great Exhibition Road Festival, gaining experience that supported his future career goals while also contributing to something bigger than himself.

Stories like George’s are why we do this work. Volunteering isn’t just about filling roles – it’s about helping people feel connected, valued, and rooted in their communities.

As we begin this new year, we’re inviting more people to be part of that story. If you’re looking for a meaningful resolution, you can browse our current volunteering opportunities and find something that fits your interests, skills and availability, or contact us to set up a guidance session with one of our Volunteer Advisors for more tailored support. And if you’re not able to give time right now, you can still support this work by donating to VCKC, helping us continue connecting people, strengthening organisations, and building more inclusive community spaces across RBKC.

Thank you to all the volunteers, partners, donors and supporters, who made this past year possible. We’re looking forward to everything the next one will bring.
