Frances is part of our Wellbeing team’s small army of Telephone Befriender volunteers, giving their time to help the most vulnerable in our community to feel less isolated during the Coronavirus pandemic. Here is her volunteering story.
As lockdown began in late March, I realised there would be many local residents experiencing feelings of isolation and with time free, I volunteered as a Telephone Befriender through the Volunteer Centre Kensington Chelsea website”. This has been my first experience with the Volunteer Centre and I am incredibly impressed with the energy, care and dedication of the team in charge of Wellbeing.
I was initially put in touch with two people to ring, and soon a third person was added. As the weeks have gone by, I have built a relationship with these people and I really look forward to checking in with them. Human contact has changed during the lockdown and a simple conversation with someone is a valuable part to keeping in touch with the Community around us.
