Business & Community Together - The Dalgarno Trust

The Dalgarno Trust is a young, vibrant charity that focuses on working within the community to promote a collaborative, healthy and dynamic local centre.

The latest figures from the Trussell Trust show a 19% year-on-year increase in food bank use, indicating that hunger and poverty continue to affect large numbers of people, including rising numbers of low-paid workers. In 2012 The Dalgarno Trust saw a growing need for a food bank to help local people who are facing unemployment, receiving low income or struggling to cope with rising household bills.

The charity recently launched a new initiative to provide a clothes rail at the food bank. This gives the opportunity for local residents to collect one or two items of clothing that have been donated to the centre throughout the week. Volunteers sort through the clothes and organise them on the rail, before helping unload the weekly donated food delivery.

The food bank is solely run from the hard work and dedication of volunteers; without them, this much needed community service wouldn’t be available. Volunteers spend their time interacting with local residents, whilst working with the centre’s regular volunteers to organise and distribute the weeks food ready for the local community to come and collect.
