This is an exciting opportunity to be the face of a beautiful Grade 1 listed Victorian Garden Cemetery. The opportunity comes as part of £4.5 million investment in Brompton Cemetery through the Brompton Cemetery Conservation Project, in which the Friends are a partner. We are looking for friendly individuals to welcome members of public onto the site, based at our brand new Meeting Place at North Lodge. This will be the primary welcome area for members of public, looking for information about Brompton Garden Cemetery, and for activities to explore the site.
*The organisation delivers curriculum-linked outdoor education for school children.
*Brings communities together through sport, and education programmes.
*Conserves and protects wildlife and diverse habitats.
*Restores historic monuments, keeping our national heritage safe now and for the future
This opportunity will involve: 1. Opening and closing the Meeting Place at North Lodge. 2. Managing, stewarding and supporting events and activities in the Meeting Place at North Lodge. 3. Welcoming visitors to Brompton Cemetery. 4. Responding to enquiries and information requests. 5. Promoting Brompton Cemetery, its activities and interpretive materials. 6. Selling literature and other items.
About Royal Parks - K&C
Brompton Cemetery, consecrated by the Bishop of London in June 1840, is one of Britain’s oldest and most distinguished garden cemeteries. The cemetery is Grade I Listed on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
The Friends of Brompton Cemetery work to preserve this remarkable site as a model of an historic cemetery with an active role in modern society. We help to restore and maintain the cemetery’s buildings, monuments and landscape, and encourage their full use by those sympathetic to the importance, beauty, heritage and fragility of this significant cemetery. We offer visitors Sunday afternoon tours, guidebooks, maps and postcards.
