Patrick, Programme User
Patrick was referred to us in July by Hestia.
He came to our office lacking in confidence and said to our Stepping Stones Coordinator “I know I won’t be able to find a volunteer role”.
Little did Patrick know, we were on hand to help!
Patrick has mental health issues and his employment history showed that he had not worked for 10 years and he told us that he struggled to find motivation to do things and have an active life.
Following the registration meeting our Stepping Stones Coordinator, Iuliana had three further sessions with him to build and develop an action plan in order to achieve his personal goals, which were to:
The Volunteer Centre prepared and supported Patrick through the delivery of the action plan, by helping put together his CV and applying for suitable volunteering opportunities that fulfil his interests and needs whilst preparing and supporting Patrick for interviews for volunteer opportunities.
With the help of our Stepping Stones project, Patrick was offered a volunteer placement to work at a public library after an interview.
An opportunity came up as a learner volunteer for The Natural History Museum; with the support of Iulianna, Patrick managed to apply successfully despite the high level of the competition (90 applications!) and the high demands of the recruitment process.
Since February, Patrick has been a very committed volunteer for The Natural History Museum and his manager is delighted with his work:
“Patrick is developing into a wonderful learning volunteer. He has a clear interest in natural history and is able to engage with young and older visitors and has noticeably increased in confidence since joining us.” Emilie – NHM Volunteer Coordinator.
